Resins and Polymer Options used in the Rotational Molding Process

The Rotational Molding Process uses many of the typical plastic resins and polymers you're familiar with.  Each has it's own characteristic and certain polymers may be required based on the application of the product, strength or environmental concerns. Sterling has FDA approvad* resins for products that will have contact with foods or will be integral to growing plants or farming type applciations.

Polyethylene is the main stay material used to rotomold typical parts and components. These include:

  • Low-density polyethylene (LDPE)
  • Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE)
  • Cross-linked polyethylene (PEX)
  • High-density polyethylene (HDPE)
  • Regrind from internally recycled scrap

Other compounds used in the rotomolding process are:

  • PVC
  • Plastisols
  • Polypropylene
  • Polyvinyl chloride
  • Nylon
  • Polycarbonate

Resins and polymers are stored and mixed onsite. Sterling's design engineers often make a myriad of adjustments for density, texture and color… even within the same run.
